A ROOF DECK SYSTEM

A complete roofing system consist of decking either plywood or OSB boards that installed over the trusses. A layer of synthetic underlayment or felt paper applied over the decking for protection against moisture ingress. Roof covering such as metal, shingles or clay tiles is then installed.  Each layer is important for the make up of a complete roof system as each layer protects the layer beneath it.

GuardMax™ Synthetic Underlayment

New technology and innovation always allow the building industry to come out with better products that benefit both homeowners and builders. The GuardMax™ Synthetic Underlayment family was developed as a felt replacement. Recent volatile & sometime catastrophic weather conditions have caused many roofing professionals to consider switching to synthetic underlayment because the benefits provided out weighted the dollars saved and troubles caused when the roofing system needed to be replaced or repaired where felt paper was applied.

One disadvantage of felt paper is that it will wrinkle through water absorption when repeated showers occurred. Instead of draining the water off, the wrinkles will cause the water to pool up, and finally run backward and leak through previous row of felt paper. This condition is worsen under lower sloped pitch application, and many shingles manufacturers will not recommend applying felt paper with their products due to roofing system when pitch is too shallow. Other disadvantages of felt paper include: absorbs excess heat and cracks when oils dry-out, easy to scuff and mark when other objects and tools come in contact with oily surfaces, and has lower resistance to wind condition.

Unlike felt paper, GuardMax™ Synthetic Underlayment is created with mixture of polymers rather than asphalt, and it will not absorb water and causes wrinkling when wet. Its unique multi-layers, combinations of woven and lamination design enhance the performance of all sloped roofing system as it will not wrinkle and provides better drainage when wet, will not scuff easily due to its strong multi-layers of polymer structure, and does provide stronger deck protection against high wind.

Advantages of GuardMax™ 110 &  145 Synthetic Undelayment:

  • Lighter to carry, wider in coverage (33%) and provides savings

    through simplifying installation.

  • Stronger than #15 or #30 felt and resistance to tearing

and stretching around fastener during high wind and

    high traffic area.

  • Impervious to mold growth, GuardMax™ Synthetic Underlayment

     is 100% inorganic.

  • High temperature stability and low temperature flexibility,

will not deform under extreme temperature that affects

    product's function as a water resistance deterrent. (-20 F ~ 241 F)

  • Enhance UV protection allows up to 12 months

    (3 months recommended) of exposure

     without primary roof covering.

  • A green product without hazardous material content.
  • 50 years limited warranty.
